1955
The Vietnam War begins after the partition of Vietnam (1954) as a civil war in South Vietnam and gradually becomes a proxy war in the phase of the Cold War – due to the direct and indirect participation of superpowers (USA, Soviet Union, China).

The war ends 20 years later with the Fall of Saigon in 1975. Casualties and losses are an estimated 2 million people – on the part of the Vietnamese alone.
