Atari
announces a loss of $ 536 million and goes into bankruptcy a year later, due to disappointing sales of the video game E.T. – The Extra Terrestrial, now considered one of the worst video games of all time. Atari pays $ 20 million to Universal for the license alone. Approximately 5 million video game modules are produced of which 1.5 million copies are eventually sold. The rest is buried in a landfill in New Mexico. The documentary Game Over (2014) tells the story behind this incident.
